What is Landing page CVR?

Landing page conversion rate is the percentage of people arriving on a page from an ad who go on to complete a purchase in that visit.

Updated

Landing page conversion rate is where most paid media is quietly lost, and it is usually cheaper to fix than the ad account. The traffic is already bought; every improvement here compounds across every campaign you run.

It is not the same number as site-wide CVR, and the two are worth keeping apart. Site CVR divides purchases by all sessions from every source, so it is flattered by returning customers, organic and email. This one counts only visitors who arrived from an ad, and divides by landing page views rather than sessions. It is the honest read on whether the page your budget points at can actually sell, which is why it is usually the lower of the two.

The first diagnostic is the gap between link clicks and landing page views. If Meta reports 10,000 clicks and only 7,000 landing page views, three thousand people left before the page finished loading. No creative change fixes that — it is a speed problem, and on Indian mobile networks it is a very common one.

After speed comes match. An ad promising a specific product that lands on a homepage forces the visitor to search for what they were shown, and a meaningful share simply leave. Then trust: visible delivery timelines, return policy, payment options and real reviews all do measurable work at Indian D2C price points. These are unglamorous fixes, but moving a page from 1.5% to 2% cuts cost per purchase by a quarter with no extra media spend at all.

How Landing page CVR is calculated

Landing page CVR = (Purchases ÷ Landing page views) × 100

A worked example

A gifting brand records 9,320 landing page views from Meta in a month and 358 purchases.

  1. Purchases = 358
  2. Landing page views = 9,320
  3. (358 ÷ 9,320) × 100 = 3.8%

Landing page CVR = 3.8%.

Common mistakes

  • Measuring against link clicks rather than landing page views. The gap between the two is often 30% or more and it is a speed problem.
  • Sending every campaign to the homepage, where the visitor has to find the product the ad promised.
  • Blaming the ads for a conversion problem that is really page speed, trust or payment options.
